Part of this partnership’s commencement includes the opportunity for two New Orleans-based artist to create a partnership with the two organizations and have his or her work sold at the IN Exchange store on Tulane’s campus. This artist must be an unknown or up- and- coming artist that is looking for an opportunity to gain exposure.

• Applicants should first become familiar with the missions and goals of both IN Exchange (http://inexchange.org/) and Artfully AWARE (http://artfullyaware.org)
• Submission will include one graphic design to be placed on either an American Apparel t-shirts or an American Apparel scarf. The artisan may only submit one design.

• Submissions must be New Orleans and/or Fair Trade-themed
• No profanity or inappropriate graphics will be allowed
• Submissions must be sent electronically. Acceptable formats include .pdf, .jpeg, .gif, .bmp, .png, or other common file format
• Dimension guidelines: T-Shirts: Maximum: 9”H X 11”W, Minimum: 7”H X 7”W, Scarves: Maximum: 7”W X 12” H, Minimum: 5”W X 5” H
• Artisans must also submit a short bio about themselves and why they think they deserve this opportunity to display their work.
• One submission will be selected for the t-shirt and one submission will be selected for the scarf.
• Each winning artisan will receive a prize of $75.
• Once the artisan has been paid for the design, IN Exchange will have full rights to print a display the design on either the American Apparel t-shirts or scarves.

Submissions will be accepted between October 24^th and November 18^th, 2011.

Applicants will be notified by November 28^th, 2011 of results of the selection process.

If selected, you will be expected to sign a contract agreement with IN Exchange and Artfully AWARE, outlining expectations from all parties, usage rights, and financial matters.

The selected submission’s artist will have the opportunity to present his or her work at the event, held tentatively on November 30^th, 2011.

October has been a very exciting month. Mainly because my two favorite events take place: Fair Trade Month and Halloween. But as the new executive director of IN Exchange there is another exciting event that is happening on Tulane campus. In conjunction with homecoming, Paul Rice, CEO of Fair Trade USA will be speaking on campus on Friday October 21^st from 5:00-6:00pm in the Woldenberg Art Center! I am a little star struck, nervous and exciting to meet him in person on Friday. He will personally be visiting the store in the afternoon and then coming to an in-store reception that IN Exchange will be having after his speech, from 6:00pm 9:00pm. We will be serving some yummy fair trade desserts and we will raffle off a pair of fleur de lis earrings and the Rebirth Brass Band CD. We will have special hours that Friday, 9:00am-9:00pm. We will also been open Sunday, October 23 from 11:00am-4:00pm. Also, if you happen to be in the LBC on October 21^st, you just may get a 10% off coupon.

And for Halloween. I bought my pumpkins and I am going to dress up as Marie Antoinette. My costume design background has become alive as I work on my costume. Come trick- or treating at IN Exchange on Halloween day, we will be giving out fair trade candy from 4:30pm-6:30pm. Also, come pick up one of our new brochures that tell all about IN Exchange. Thanks Hop & Jaunt for doing such a great job on the design!

And I almost forgot here is a picture of our product of the month.

 Natural bath and body products from Thistle Farms. Founded in 1997 by Becca Stevens, an Episcopal priest in Nashville, Tenesse, this social enterprise works with a residential program for women who have survived lives of violence, prostitution and addiction. These women are given the opportunity to make a new life for themselves. For the first two years the organization gives the women housing, food, medical and dental needs, therapy, education and job training, all without charge or taking any government funding. After the women are able to make a living and sustainable wage that empowers them.
